A record number of Brits are looking to leave the UK to purchase a property overseas, according to recent research.
The Global Emigration Hotspots Report, compiled by British Developments, shows that enquires from Britons searching for property abroad rose by 22% in 2007, compared to 2006.
In fact, it is anticipated that UK expats will surpass three million by 2050, according to a second study conducted by NatWest bank.
British Developments manager said that the most popular overseas destination was Australia, which recorded a 15% increase in interest in 2007, compared to the previous year. Demand among Brits looking to emigrate was also healthy for properties in Bulgaria, Spain, Canada, France and New Zealand.
British Developments manager said: "A strong pound, rising house prices and good job opportunities abroad tend to be the main reasons for Brits to emigrate.
"However, different destinations hold different appeal and changes to the migration process in certain countries is really affecting the numbers of people choosing to move there."
