Nessebar and property

The town-museum Nessebar is situated in a small peninsula 850 m long, 300 m wide, connected to the mainland and New Nessebar through a narrow isthmus. The millennium history of the town begins with the Thracian settlers who named their town "Menabria" ("bria" means town). The Greek colonists renamed the town to "Messembria" and transformed the village into an important seaport and cultural centre with the privilege to coin money. Each civilization - Romans, Byzantines, Slavs and Proto Bulgarians contributed to the unique history of the town. Nessebar face its summit during the Middle Ages when it was property of the imperial Byzantium family and more than 40 Christian churches were built on this small area. The old town Nessebar is under the UNESCO protection (since 1983) as a part of the world culture heritage.

Accommodation is provided both in Old and New Nessebar (also known Nesebyr, Nessebyr, Nesebar). Rooms and apartments in private houses and small family hotels are available.

Bulgaria - Nessebar - Old Town Today, the narrow peninsula of Nessebar is one of Bulgaria's most delightful tourist spots, as the tiny town attracts nearly a million visitors a year to its narrow cobblestone streets, which wind among quaint 19-th century wooden houses, their tiny courtyards filled with fig trees and vine trellises.

Sights that don't miss in Nessebar:

  • Old Nessebar's ramparts and fortress gates dating back to the V - VI century BC.
  • The town museum - offers a rich collection of antiques from the Thracian, Greek, Roman and Bulgarian settlers as well as a fine exhibition of Christian icons. Churches:
  • The Old Metropolitan (V - VI century AD), represents a three-nave basilica (19x13 m).
  • St. Stephane (X - XI century).
  • St. John Alitorgetos (X - XI century) - three-nave church, which was never consecrated. It was built from pebbles, white stone, red bricks and ceramics.
  • Christ Pantokrator (XIII - XIV century) - built during the reign of Ivan Alexander.
  • St. Archangel Michael and Gabriel (XIII - XIV c). St. Paraskeva (XIII - XIV).
  • St. Spasse (XIV century) - an example of a church built during the Ottoman domination.

With a history dating back some 2,500 years, Nessebar has been linked with many ancient civilizations. The magnificent old quarter is under preservation order as a living museum town, housing the remains of 40 churches from different periods of history. You will find superb opportunities for photography and painting here, and the narrow cobbled streets and gabled houses make Nessebar an ideal place for guests looking for a seaside holiday or home in atraditional Bulgarian town. There is no museum feeling here though - both the old and the new towns are full of life with music and entertainment sometimes late into the night.

A UNESCO World heritage site and an excellent choice. Everything is available at Nessebar. Ancient buildings, historical monuments, quiet restaurants, fashionable cafes and the biggest beach resort of Sunny Beach is only 2 km away.

Very beautiful town.
